Question regarding Antique Diamond Wedding Set Old Mine Cut 14K Gold

Q: why are you selling a picture listed under wedding rings. Why not under art. This is misleading. Especially if someone doesn't read every word on your description. Why mention the size of the ring and other characteristics.

A: This is part of a larger art project. The listing is in fact listed under art as well as wedding rings. One reason being, that the project is intended to be exhibited outside of an art context. Additionally, by blurring the lines between the object and the image it questions the role of photography in our culture as well as consumerism. Even with that said, I do endeavor to be quite explicit in stating that the auction is for a photograph and not, in this case, a wedding set. I appreciate your concern and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. If you would like to learn more about the project please visit, erikdalzen.com

Antique Diamond Wedding Set Old Mine Cut 14K Gold

Antique Diamond Wedding Set Old Mine Cut 14K Gold
Antique Diamond Wedding Set Old Mine Cut 14K Gold, 2008
Digital Chromegenic Print, 8x10"

Up for bid is an original photograph depicting a diamond wedding set. The photograph is by artist, Erik Dalzen, and is titled "Antique Diamond Wedding Set Old Mine Cut 14K Gold" The photograph measures 8x10 inches (including border). Numbered 1/10 from a limited edition of 10 prints in this size. Signed, numbered, and dated on the back.

This is a beautiful antique wedding set* with exquisite craftsmanship and timeless eloquence. The engagement ring features a prominent old mine cut diamond flanked by three smaller diamonds on each side. Old mine cut diamonds were popular throughout the 1800's, cut to maximize carat weight and feature the most favorable appearance. They are characterized by a high crown, small table, deep pavilion and large cutlet. The result is that the diamond has an enchanting, soft romantic glow rather than the harsh "fire" of modern diamond styles. The wedding band is a beautiful compliment with nine channel set diamonds. This amazing antique set is superbly crafted with diamonds cut by hand, 14K White Gold, and solid and secure settings. Other names for old mine cut include: old miner, cushion cut, peruzzi cut, and triple cut brilliant.

*This is only background information about the rings pictured. The actual wedding set is not included in this auction. If you are the winning bidder you will receive a photograph in the mail, shipped in a flat envelope.

Gandhi Glasses Wire-Rimmed "Eyes" Mahatma India

Gandhi Glasses Wire-Rimmed "Eyes" Mahatma India
Gandhi Glasses Wire-Rimmed "Eyes" Mahatma India, 2009
Ink on paper, 7.5x8.5"

Up for bid is an original drawing of Mahatma Gandhi's wire-frame glasses. The drawing is by artist, Erik Dalzen, and is titled "Gandhi Glasses Wire-Rimmed "Eyes" Mahatma India." Ink drawing on BFK Tan 100% archival cotton rag paper. The drawing measures 7.5x7.5 inches. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind, historically important drawing. Signed and dated on the back.

Gandhi was the ascetic of the century (as well as Time magazine's Man of the Year in 1930 and five time Nobel Peace Prize nominee between 1937 and 1948). Of the few items he did own, his wire-rimmed glasses* were his trademark feature. They accompanied him all over the place; throughout different countries, to lots of people's houses, to prison and on trains. As The Father of the Nation Gandhi's "eyes" helped him to obtain the vision to transform India and lay the foundation for it's independence movement. Glasses are very fine, uber rare and historically important. They are also pretty cool looking given the right head shape.
*This is background information about the Gandhi's glasses and does not pertain to the drawing itself. The actual glasses are not included in this auction. If you are the winning bidder you will receive a drawing in the mail.
